Erika James, DNP, FNP-C

Nurse Practitioner


Erika James, MSN, FNP-C, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with a deep commitment to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals and families across the lifespan. At the Howard Center, which has locations in Covington, Valdosta, Moultrie, Warner Robins, Leesburg, Douglas, Tifton, and Waycross, Georgia, Erika brings more than a decade of diverse clinical experience to her role, with specialized expertise in women’s health, maternal care, primary care, and chronic disease management.

Erika earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Georgia Southwestern University, completing the Family Nurse Practitioner program in 2019. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of West Georgia and an Associate of Science in Nursing from Darton State College. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Arkansas State University, further enhancing her leadership and clinical expertise.

Throughout her career, Erika has served in various healthcare roles, including nurse practitioner at Athens Neighborhood Health Center and now at the Howard Center, where she provides comprehensive care tailored to the needs of women at every stage of life. Her previous experience as a clinical instructor at Albany State University and as a mother-baby nurse at Piedmont Athens Regional highlights her passion for patient education and maternal health.

Erika is certified by the AANP Certification Board in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), basic life support (BLS), moderate sedation, and stroke care. She is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and maintains licensure with the Georgia Board of Nursing.

With a warm, patient-centered approach, Erika is dedicated to helping her patients achieve their health goals through accessible, high-quality primary and preventative care in the Athens community.
